Summary: A local dealer in historical newspapers, now retired, has offered MOAH access to his remaining inventory ( some 75,000 issues ) to sell on eBay, the net proceeds to go to MOAH. These newspapers include practically every major event over the past two hundred years from George Washington's presidency to that of George W. Bush.
We need someone willing to do the writeups for eBay, listing on eBay and mailing of the sold newspapers, for which you will receive 25% of the net income after sales-related expenses and provide periodic reports to MOAH management and the dealer. MOAH will provide a working eBay account and payment mechanism. The donating dealer will manage the inventory and will provide complete training in all aspects, doing the writeups, listing on eBay, customer relations, and wrapping and mailing of sold newspapers. So in addition to payment you will learn the ins and outs of eBay and of the mail order business.
MOAH provides unique, family-friendly, science and history oriented education programs and activities for the Mid-Peninsula area that encourage careers in technology through innovative exhibits, classes, and events.
Additional information: If you are interested in U.S. history, here is your opportunity to read original, genuine newspapers back to the 1790s. You will be reading American history in its most detailed and complete form, in the pages of its daily newspapers. Subjects include every war from the War of 1812 to World War II, the California Gold Rush, slavery, maritime & whaling, photography, politics & presidential elections, travel, Lincoln's assassination, Titanic and other disasters, medicine, sports, financial, crime & criminals from Jesse James to Bonnie & Clyde, movies, travel, circus, famous deaths, Mormons, fashion, Indians, mining and many, many other categories.
If you have a specific interest, many newspapers are available in which you can specialize. The papers include sports pages dating back over a hundred years, just as they do today. If you enjoy baseball, football, basketball, hockey, tennis, the Olympics, and every other popular sport, this is your opportunity. There are also a great many Old West newspapers from the 1800s available for sale, if that is your interest. And full page movie ads (sometimes double page) from 1934 to 1941 (you won't believe what's here).
To see examples of the writeups you will be doing, go to eBay sellers TIMHU (Tim Hughes) and QRS (Steve Goldman) and look at their completed sales. Both gentlemen are knowledgeable, reputable dealers the donor has known and dealt with for over 30 years. (If you're not familiar with eBay, go to their web sites at http://www.rarenewspapers.com/ (Hughes) and http://www.historicalnews.com/ (Goldman).)
We have enough newspapers available that we can use several people.
If interested, please submit your letter of interest and short resume by email to the address below.
The subject line should begin with the words "eBay specialist" and your last name.
