Class/Workshop: Introduction to 3-D Modeling for Games

Class objective
Discover the concepts of 3 dimensional modeling and how design concepts apply to game design today.

Class description

This class is the only one of its kind in Silicon Valley! After learning an easy-to-use 3-D modeling program, students will create 3-D Models with lighting effects. We will discuss how scenes and characters are created for computer games. Then you will design a game using an industry-leading gaming engine and incorporate your models. Then play it!

No prior 3-D modeling experience is required, but students should be familiar with drawing programs such as Visio, Illustrator, Photoshop, or PowerPoint.

Age range: 10 and up

Maximum class size: 15 students

Recommended reading

"Game Design Workshop: Designing, Prototyping, and Playtesting Games", by Fullerton, Swain, and Hoffman.

"3D Game Programming All in One, Second Edition", by Kenneth C Finney.

"Secrets of the Game Business", by Francois Dominic Laramee.

"Torque for Teens", by Mike Duggan.

All of these were selected as having relatively less math content than other books, but check content before buying, as some of these are aimed at the high school or above age range.

Registration must be completed 2 weeks prior to start of class.
