Class/Workshop: Integrated Circuits: The Chips That Run the World

Class objective
Learn the history and uses of integrated circuits and how to construct devices using them.

Class description
This course rounds out the history of electronic devices that began with the Electrostatics Workshop. In the IC class, students will learn about the scientific developments that lead to the IC, and about the scientists and engineers who contributed to the invention of the IC. The students will see and learn how ICs are manufactured, and how they work. The students will also make an AM radio using ICs, learning how to read the connections, the block diagram concept, how to handle the chips, how to identify electronic components, and how to properly mount and solder them on a printed circuit board.
