Class description
Students participating in this class investigate simple machines and their usefulness in everyday life. Three simple machines are investigated: the lever, the pulley, and the inclined plane. The derivation of the wheel and axle, the wedge, and the screw, modifications of the three simple machines, is shown. Students learn about these simple machines while constructing their own model trebuchet, a type of medieval siege engine that demonstrates the principle of mechanical advantage.
