One day we had a new visitor, a man by the name of Eric Bark. Eric was a handsome man, tall and well built, with a large collection of impeccably tailored suits. He spoke English with an Oxford accent, and was obviously a very well educated man.
One weekend, on a Saturday, the group at the studio decided that Eric should try his hand at announcing. He seemed perfectly agreeable, so he was brought into the announcer's studio and given a rather complete education on how to do the work. In fact, I believe he had enough help to switch the various mics and phonographs so that he had only to talk when someone gave him the nod. It was absolutely by coincidence that the record coming up on the show was one which would cause him a great deal of trouble. As many of us know, the Scandinavians "J" their "Y"s and "Y" their "J"s when they speak English. And the record that Eric was to announce was called, as he put it under the stress of the moment, "The Six Yumping Yacks, with It's Junanimous Now". When the music started playing Eric solemnly got up from the chair, turned to go to the door and disappeared, never to be seen again in Fargo. |
